Pennsylvania Army Veteran Awarded Mobility is Freedom Vehicle Grant through WWFS Donors

Mobility if Freedom Grant Essary Family Wounded Warriors Family Support

May 20, 2025

Imagine the power of freedom, mobility, and independence.  For our brave wounded warriors, like Army Sgt. William Essary, these dreams are becoming a reality through the transformative Mobility is Freedom program.  This initiative isn’t just about providing a vehicle; it’s about restoring the liberty and autonomy that our heroes deserve.  With a vehicle of their choice, tailored precisely to accommodate their unique needs and those of their family, our veterans are empowered to overcome limits and embrace life once more.

At WWFS, we believe that combat-wounded veterans deserve nothing less than the best. These specially modified vehicles aren’t just modes of transport; they’re vessels of hope, courage, and renewed purpose. With the Mobility is Freedom program, we honor their sacrifices by equipping them with the means to explore, connect, and thrive in all aspects of their lives.

“I was a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. Soon after 9/11 happened, we trained to go to war.  Our unit deployed to Afghanistan from Dec 2002-June 2003.  I came back from war, then on May 18, 2004, we were on another training mission down at Fort Bragg getting ready for a 2nd deployment.  When we were training, a special forces soldier hit me with his pickup truck while I was on foot doing 70 mph.  He was looking down and never saw me.

I ended up losing my left leg, shattered both bones in both arms, broke my back, memory loss, hearing loss, messed up my knee, and PTSD from war.  I medically retired in 2006.”  – Sgt. William Essary, U.S. Army.

Join us in this incredible journey of resilience and triumph. Together, we can ensure that our heroes regain the seamless integration into society that they fought so valiantly to protect. Let’s celebrate their strength and offer them the true freedom of mobility – because with each mile traveled, a new chapter of life and healing begins.
