Runza® Restaurants have been a Midwest thing since 1949 that were started by Sally Everett, expanded by her son and still run by her grandchildren. Runza’s recipes and processes are decades old, but the ingredients are not. Runza started in Lincoln, then expanded throughout Nebraska and into neighboring states. To keep it fresh, Runza chose not to go national. Runza employees are up before sunrise to prepare the dough, season ground beef with a top-secret blend of spices and form it all into the perfect sandwich. The Runza Sandwich features fresh-baked bread stuffed with ground beef, onions, a secret blend of spices, and yes, cabbage.
