Wounded Warriors Family Support Donates 2025 Ford F-150 Truck to Retired Marines Veteran
A veteran from Wichita who lost part of his leg during his deployment in Afghanistan has received a new mode of mobility: a 2025 Ford F-150 pickup truck.
The program helps severely injured veterans regain their independence by providing modified cars suited to their needs.
“We believe that given a properly equipped vehicle for individual needs, a combat-wounded veteran will have freedom to live a productive and quality life with their family,” Wounded Warriors Family Support Program Outreach Coordinator Martin Duarte said. “We are proud and honored to provide this vehicle to John in an effort to enhance his quality of life with family members.”
In 2008, Mevey was on a night operation in Nawzad, Afghanistan, when tragedy struck and he stepped on a land mine.
The blast caused extensive injuries to both legs, resulting in his right leg being amputated below the knee and partial paralysis in his left leg.
“While these injuries changed the course of my life, they have not defined it,” Mevey said.
Mevey spent multiple months in the hospital, undergoing several surgeries on his road to rehabilitation. With the help of his wife, Mevey eventually recovered and even opened his own business in the defense industry.
The couple is very thankful for the donation and hopes to open their own charity to support veterans like Mevey.
Radian Group raised more than $30,000 to support Marine Corps veteran, Corporal John Mevey from Wichita, Kansas. Corporal Mevey and his family joined Radian employees in Wayne, PA, to receive the keys to their band new vehicle that is specially modified for John’s needs.
